Launch of the National Survey CYStudents: Students’ Voices Matter!
The Department of Higher Education (DHE) of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (MESY) announces the launch of the first cycle of the National Survey CYStudents: Studies and Student Life, which is conducted within the framework of the European survey EUROSTUDENT 9. The purpose of the survey is to support the development of policies aimed at improving the economic and social conditions of students in Cyprus Higher Education.
CYStudents will collect high-quality, internationally comparable data on all aspects of student life in Cyprus. Specifically, the survey will explore the following topics:
- Socioeconomic background of students
- Study and living conditions
- Mental health and well-being
- Employment during studies
- International mobility
- Housing, income, and expenses during studies
EUROSTUDENT 9
EUROSTUDENT is a European research project carried out since 2000, collecting comparable data every three years on the social and economic conditions of student life across Europe. The ninth round involves 26 countries, including Cyprus, aiming to support evidence-based comparisons between participating countries and inform the development of educational policies both nationally and at a European level on social dimension issues.
For Cyprus, participation in EUROSTUDENT 9 will be a valuable tool for evidence-based policymaking. The findings will support decisions that respond to the real and current needs of students.
Who Can Participate?
All students enrolled in programs of study at any level (Certificates, Diplomas, Higher Diplomas, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorates) in Cyprus Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) during the Spring Semester 2025 will be invited to participate.

Data Collection – Access to the Questionnaire
Data collection will take place between May to June 2025 via an online questionnaire. Students can access the questionnaire through the official survey website: 👉 https://cystudents.highereducation.ac.cy or via a personal link sent to their email (personal or academic).
Participation in the survey is voluntary, anonymous, and confidential. Upon completion, participants will have the opportunity to enter a draw to win gift vouchers from well-known retail chains.
Why Your Participation Matters
At the national level:
- Strengthening student support policies: The survey results will help the DHE propose policies that address students’ real challenges.
- Improving student support services at HEIs: Data will guide targeted improvements in housing, meals, psychological support, academic guidance, and student welfare services.
- Enhancing the social dimension of Higher Education in Cyprus:
The findings will support policy development based on scientific evidence.
At the European level:
- Comparative mapping of student experiences: Cyprus’ participation will enable comparisons of student conditions with those in other countries of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
- Evidence-based support for strategies and reforms: Results will inform the development of targeted policies in line with EHEA recommendations on the social dimension of Higher Education.
Access to Results
The data and findings of CYStudents will be published upon completion. Students, parents, researchers, HEIs, policymakers, and the public will have access to this information on the conditions of student life in Cyprus’ Higher Education.
